Our commitment
A certified carbon-neutral business
When Exeter City Council declared a climate emergency, we felt it was our duty to act. As of April 2022, Cobalt is a certified carbon-neutral company.
We pride ourselves on being a humble team and don't usually make much noise about the worthy things our colleagues do. But when Exeter City Council declared a climate emergency in 2019, we felt it was not only our duty to act, but to break a conscious habit — so we set about investigating how to make our workplace more sustainable, and we've made some significant changes.
How we got there
Working closely with Exeter-based firm Blue Marble Environmental Partnerships, we made sure our business processes and practices have no negative impact on the environment. As of April 2022, Cobalt is a certified carbon-neutral company. We believe that's not only the right thing to do — it makes good business sense too.
Offsetting an IT company's footprint
As a communications and IT company, it's only natural that we use a significant amount of energy — our work is highly dependent on technology and we travel to visit our clients' offices. But while that might seem like an obstacle to being environmentally conscious, we've managed to offset our carbon output without compromising our service.
The changes we've made
How we achieved carbon neutrality
Electric vehicles
We've purchased electric vehicles and introduced a policy to use these in preference to personal cars.
Cloud-based servers
Our servers have moved from on-site systems to cloud services, with low-carbon operators chosen for their proven credentials.
A better-insulated office
We've moved to a modern office at Exeter Skypark, which offers far greater insulation than our previous premises.
Solar charging
We're installing solar chargers at the new office.
Forestation
We actively support the Pacajai forestation project to offset our footprint.
“We are delighted to have achieved carbon neutrality in such a short space of time. The internationally recognised standard is a testament to the ‘can-do’ attitude of our team and the great help provided by Blue Marble.”
